A Summer Internship

They say that you should try to hire people who are smarter than you are, so please take a moment to congratulate me because I’ve done that very thing. Between the end of this month and half-way through August, the talented Bruce W. Spang—‘W’ for Win, probably not his real middle name—will be the smartest person working at Boston Web Studio. As magical as that may be, I regret to inform you myself that it’s not a permanent position, something about Bruce finishing high school, so the increase in office-awesomeness will be but a moment in the company’s lifetime.
So, Who is Bruce?
Bruce is a young designer, developer, and lady-swooner hailing from the great city of Salem, Massachusetts. As a regular attendee of the Build Guild, I and many other local folks in the industry have come to know him as the person we’ll all work for someday because he often creates wonderful and complicated things that would stump most of us. For example:
- He built his own money-tracking web application: CashApp
- He built a web application that allows you to monitor the rebounds that take place on Dribbble: Playofffs
- Advanced CSS is a breeze for him: French project
- He can make a mean application icon: Cross Country 2 game icon
When Bruce isn’t busy experimenting with another new coding language or trying his hand at a new visual design style, he finds time to humor people via his twitter account, @brucespang.
What Will Bruce be Doing?
He’ll be working on a couple of projects that are starting in the coming weeks. Everything from website design to ExpressionEngine installation and configuration, along with the occasional round of Wii Golf and company lunches at the nearby deli, he’s simply going to be my right-hand-man.
It Sounds Fantastic!
I know, right? Please join me in welcoming Bruce Win Spang to the world of Boston Web Studio (“High Quality & Hijinks”), and please congratulate me for hiring somebody who’s smarter than I am.

A word of advice for Bruce: never go for it on in the 9th hole. The Booyant guys will, and they’ll probably hit it, but they also probably play more than you do.
Play it safe on hole 9. Always.

An excellent pairing of fine gentlemen indeed, if I do say so myself. There will be much merriment in the Boston Web Studio this summer.

Hi Mark,
Just saw your comments - thanks for the nice thoughts on Bruce (we think he’s terrific too!) Hopefully things worked out as well for you as you hoped when you wrote this in June. Thanks for giving Bruce a great opportunity this summer. While his friends have been cleaning tables, it’s nice that he’s been able to follow his passions. Nice website too.
cheers,
Larry
